A Soul for Trouble by Crista McHugh

Summary:
When you’re a witch named Trouble, chaos follows.

Arden Lesstymine (known to everyone as Trouble) likes attention as much as the next girl, but this is getting ridiculous. When an insane stranger is murdered at the inn where she works, Trouble becomes the next Soulbearer for the disembodied god of chaos, Loku. Yes, it comes with the ability to channel the god’s limitless power, but at the cost of her sanity — literally. Now she has a sexy but cynical knight claiming to be her protector, a prince trying to seduce her to his cause (and his bed), and a snarky chaos god who offers a play-by-play commentary on it all, whether she wants to hear it or not. To make matters worse, a necromancer wants to capture the soul of Loku for his own dark purposes, and the only way he can get it is by killing her first.

A Soul in Trouble is one of those clever ironic books where the title is literally what you get. Arden aka Trouble knows she's different. She's got golden hair, blue eye, and delicate features; while the citizens of Ranello have dark hair, dark skin, and dark eyes. Arden has another problem, she's got magic in her and the people of Ranello thinks she a witch. Turns out she's the Soulbearer and it comes with a whole lot of problems as she has no clue about her destiny.

She's a young woman that's hurting a lot, because so far she's only known life as an outcast. From the first few pages we see this in her thoughts. Then she gets chosen by the god of Chaos Loku to come his new home, denying the protector Dev once again the chance to become the Soulbearer as the law dictates. Dev has gotten use to it by now, it’s the fifth human chosen but even he's surprised as he wasn’t expecting Loku to choose a girl and one with magic in her blood. He's tempted by her and it's becoming harder to resist. They meet the Prince of Ranello, who has his own agenda and wants Arden in his bed.

I was drawn in to this book from the opening scene. I couldn’t put this book down and I enjoyed it immensely. Loku is a force of his own and things he does to create tension are amusing and creative. The tension between the Arden, Prince Kell, and Dev could be cut with a knife, when they first meet. I love these characters and I think it's going to be a great series. It was a well written and edited book. I give this book 5 stars and I can't wait to find out what happens next. I hope isn't too long of a wait until we get the next book in this magical series.
