Kiss of the Vampire (Warriors of the Rift 1) by Cynthia Garner Paranormal Tour part 3

Summary:
Once a generation, the rift between the paranormal world and the human world opens, allowing supernatural entities to cross. Vampire, demon, or shapeshifter, they can save the world-or send it spiraling into chaos.

Half-demon, half-human, Nix de la Fuente is accepted by neither and mistrusted by both. Determined to prove she's more human than not, she devotes herself to solving crimes between the world's mortals and its most unsavory undead. But her latest case brings her face to face with the one vampire she could never resist . . .

Called in to investigate a string of violent murders, special agent Tobias Caine isn't interested in rekindling his relationship with Nix. Yet one look and the vampire knows his need for her is as strong as ever. Once, their all-consuming passion nearly cost Nix her fragile hold on her humanity. Now, as their hunger for one another intensifies, exposing them to an unimaginable danger, it could cost them both their lives.

Half demon Nix Liaison de la Fuente and vampire Tobias Caine have a past together. Tobias left her five years ago. He did it not because he didn’t love her, but because he was worried that she might lose herself in her demon.
He’d become more and more concerned at how less and less she’d been able to control her demon tendencies. Finally he’d walked away for her own good.
Now, they have to work together to find a vampire killer. Along with a human, Detective Dante MacMillan, they are involved in a race against the clock; they have to find the killer or killers before he or they strike again.

They discover that the deaths are connected to the rift that links the Earth to other dimension. It was thought that nobody could connect to the other side and the other side didn’t know that the criminals they sent to Earth possess humans; still, they find out that someone managed to create a way to do it... and it was Tobias's enemy.

Ms. Cynthia Garner has been very creative in building this story, giving us an alternative creation of the paranormal creatures:
An Extra-Dimensional (ED) from the other dimension takes possession of a human and the combination of their otherworldly essence with that of their host determines just what creature they become.
I liked the story, loved the characters and the storyline, but to be sincere, it lost me half way. I lost the connection, the interest. Too much information, too much action compressed in just few days (all the story is set in less than a week) and it made my head spin. It’s not a bad book or story, but it wasn’t a good fit for me. I am rating it 4.5 stars.
